Hello, my dear followers. Good evening!
Look what I got from the bookstore today! It’s Sherlock Holmes by none other than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
I wasn’t actually planning to buy a book right now since I’m still saving up for a good haul. But then I was too early for my summer job and I decided to pass by a bookstore first just to browse for any good book. And then I found this one. Sadly, it’s the second volume and no matter how much I searched, I cannot find the first. Nevertheless, I still bought it since I don’t really need to read Sherlock Holmes in a certain order.
I am curious about the novels since I have watched and fangirled over BBC Sherlock, so I want to know how different the book and show are. I know for a fact that the show was modernized and completely more futuristic with all the tech-y stuff. I guess I wanted to read how the original Sherlock worked his brilliance to solve the mysteries of Victorian England. I know that Sherlock Holmes is considered to be one of the best classics ever written.
I am not really a big fan of detective books but then the mystery, cleverness and plot twists I have watched on the show is enough to convince me that the book might also be a good read. Hopefully, I can find the other volumes so that I can enjoy the whole thing completely.

More British films that I love.

The Boat That Rocked (Pirate Radio) (2010)

This is amovie set on 1960s which focused on people’s love for rock and roll. It’s a time when rock and roll was banned in England due to it’s said influence of drugs, sex, and insanity. The government is strict on eradicating genres other than classical music. Now, music lovers wouldn’t want that right? With that, comes the help of Pirate Radio. It is a ship-based illegal radio station which stands up and fights for their love for music. Pirate Radio insists on playing pop and rock and roll, which captured half of the English audience. It’s a fun story of different people, with one common denominator, coming together to express their freedom in the music world. It’s a great movie about friendship, family, love and music.

Cracks (2009)

Now, at first, this movie makes us think about freedom of choices and pursuing our dreams with perseverance. It is set in the 1930s and shows the life on the teenagers in an elite boarding school. The girls are trained and have passion for swimming. Their love for the sport was encouraged by their charismatic teacher. As the movie goes, the character of this teacher is slowly revealed as we see how she becomes attached to her girls. A foreign student from Spain comes and their teacher grew very interested which enticed jealously among her other students. Little did they know that the woman they idolize very much has a deep dark secret. It is a tale of a different kind of love which grew as a dangerous one. It tells us how innocence is taken and that sometimes, it’s not good thing.

Toast (2010)

This is a sumptuous a tale about food, family and choices in life. Little Nigel Slater always have a thing for food but her mother never let him eat anything other than tinned food. This only made the child interest grow stronger. As Nigel’s mother died, an opportunity shows up that let him pursue what he wanted in life, which is to be a cook. Problems arouse as his father found another woman, their cleaner. His love for his deceased mother made him despise the woman but then he learned something, this woman know how to cook good food. He wanted to learn from her but she wouldn’t help him because she feels that Nigel wanted to steal back his father’s affection through his stomach. As time comes, he learned from more about cooking from people who helped him. But an unfortunate tragedy faced him as his father died. This leave him to realize that he does not have to be binded all his life and that he can do whatever he wants. It’s an inspiring story of how you can find freedom and see that anything is possible as long as we act on it.
