On what stores do you usually buy your books?

I am from the Philippines so I have limited choices. My favorite bookstore is Fully Booked since I really find them accessible and very on-time when I reserve for books. Then probably Powerbooks and NBS.

Oh I do love frequenting Booksale when I have time because I find so many good books there with almost half the original price. You just have to know where to look and the patience to check out every shelf. :)

Hope I helped. :)

Me: *browsing the shelves for a good book while holding the ones in the photo*
Random Girl: *picks up Fifty Shades Box Set at the adjacent shelf*
Random Girl: “Hey, you look like a bookworm, too! Don’t you think this is a great series!?”
Me: *contemplating whether to pretend not to hear her or just tell the truth that I find those books sucky*
Random Girl: “I mean, Christian Grey is just so awesome!”
Me: “Sorry, I don’t read that series.”
Random Girl: *surprised* “Oh..  but you should!” *eyes the books I’m holding.*
Me: “Uhh, I tried, but that genre isn’t really my thing.”
Random Girl: “Hmm. But it’s so good. Oh well, what books are those?”
Me: “Uhh.. Running With Scissors, Down The Rabbit Hole, and One Moment, One Morning.”
Random Girl: “Ooohh. I don’t know those. Anyway, try the Fifty Shades series. I think they’re way cooler than that. Trust me.”
Me: *Oh hell no* “Uhhh.. no, thank you” *walks off immediately to the counter*

Well, that was a weird experience, not to mention, irritating. Like, this is a freaking bookstore and there are a whole bunch of various books, why do you think every single person you meet would like the same one you do? I tried so hard not to be rude, but hell, mind your own business, woman.
Anyways, this is, my November Book Haul Part 3, I guess? Hahaha. I know I’m not supposed to buy anymore, but the ever tempting shelves, once again, won over my frail will. And so I got three books (well, should have been more if it wasn’t for that girl) from Powerbooks:
Running With Scissors by Augusten Burroughs
Down The Rabbit Hole by Peter Abrahams
One Moment, One Morning by Sarah Rayner
Jeeeeez. I already spent half of my allowance for this week. That jar over there is my savings jar for books or whatever else. And I guess there won’t be any additional deposit this week. I am so bad at this. Hahaha.

All those bookstores out there with the Fifty Shades trilogy displayed at their entrances, I hope you know that a lot of minors are being overly curious about that series. And you know what? IT IS NOT A GOOD THING. If their parents knew about the content of those books, I cannot even imagine how they would react. Please be responsible promoters. Those are very graphic erotic books which are supposed to be in the adult section, not splayed all over as a center of attraction. Call me a hater, or whatever, but I think it’s really inappropriate. And I really do not like the books at all. I even saw a young girl of about 12 or 13 years of age picking one copy. GAWD. :|

Bookworm must-have: Discount Card.

Every two years, I get one of this from my favorite bookstore, Fully Booked. This discount card gives me 10% off on every book for cash purchases and 5% off for credit card purchases. Knowing that I am a huge hoarder of books, I really use this card often. The 10% discount is not a very big deduction but it’s very significant when I’m buying more than 5 books in one go. Sometimes, the discounted price allows me fit one more books in my budget. Whenever that happens, I would smile in full delight. It’s sad that other bookstores don’t have this. Before, I used to own a powercard from Powerbooks but then, I lost it and powercards aren’t available anymore. It is a big help in my book shopping. I am not very rich, you know and I still want to buy so many other books. Haha.

Book geek dilemma #10: During sale season: Having two voices in your head at the same time. One is forcing you not to enter the bookstore, while the other urges you to go in and buy books. Problem is, you don’t know which voice to listen to.

Random Fact:
I always keep this list of books-to-buy. It is kept in my wallet so that every time I go out, I have it with me. This particular one is from last year. I have bought more than half of the books listed in it. I take it out whenever I enter any bookstore so I can hunt for the said books. If my quest fails, I hand it over to the person-in-charge so they can check it on their catalog. When I found a book, I always have a highlighter ready to cross out the title from the list. My mom said it would be easier if I just put the list on my phone, but I insist that this one is better. I’m hoping to find and but the remaining books this year, maybe around the school year since I am broke right now.
And again, sorry for the crappy photo quality. As I’ve said the camera’s with my sister.

I have my reasons for being a book hoarder.

It’s not because I have tons of money to spend on books. And it is also not because I just collect books for display and not for reading. That is a very offensive thing to say. I don’t read those books right away because I still don’t have time. But during vacation, I do knock off a lot of books from my to-read list. So please don’t say that the books I buy are just for show. I get offended very much for that.

The reason I hoard books and buy them impulsively is that I am afraid they might not be available the next time I went to that certain bookstore. It happened to me a lot of times in the past and I very much regret ignoring the chance of buying the books when I first encounter them in those precious shelves. I buy the books I want the moment I find them. It’s so hard to hunt for specific books, so why let that chance just go? I mean, if I have enough money to buy and the price is reasonable, what is there to think twice of?

I am saying this for people to understand. I have heard a lot of people telling me that I am an impulsive buyer and that I don’t really read them at all. Well, that’s just a big joke. First of all, why would I use my money to buy those books if I won’t open them? I am not an idiot to do that. And also, I just cannot resist the pull of bookstores. There was never a time that I enter a mall and not go into one of the bookstores. I just can’t help myself. So yeah, please just understand.

Will go to the mall to meet my friends later.

We agreed to wait for each other at Fully Booked. This will not be a good news for my wallet. Yep, I think I it will probably be half empty by the time we are complete. I CAN’T GO INTO A BOOKSTORE WITHOUT BUYING EVEN ONE BOOK! :|

I want a guy who would go to the library or bookstore with me and be able to pick up a good book that I would want to read.

That kind of guy is very hard to find seeing that most of them hates and find it boring to read books. But there are still a fair few and I would love to be with someone like that.

Oh Mr. Bookworm, will I ever see you again?

So after I got back from fixing my papers for enrollment, I dropped by ATC to check for books at Powerbooks. I was looking for Ned Vizzini’s It’s Kind Of A Funny Story when I saw this guy. At first, what caught my eye is that he was tall, like maybe 6’. And then when I really looked, he was reading an opened copy of, coincidence or not, It’s Kind Of A Funny Story. I mean, woah, he’s cute, tall, and holding one of my favorite books. Damn, I was so shocked. Then, maybe he sensed that I was looking, and glanced at me, saying “Do you know Craig Gilner?” I was so surprised that I just nodded. He just smiled there. I mean, SMILED. As I am an awkward girl for conversations like these, all I said was “Yeah, he’s the main character there right? Maps?” And he laughed, telling me that I’m right. God, I can’t believe it. But yeah, I’m a big coward so I just walked away, not even buying the book that I wanted. I am an IDIOT, I know.
