Rewards For Braving The Shitty Weather.
As some of you may know, another storm has struck our country, the Philippines this week. As a Physical Therapy intern, we are assigned to different centers and we follow these centers’ rules. Of course, like any other horrendous rainy day, we are awaiting the announcement of class and office suspension. At around 5am, our university, UST has already announced suspension for all levels due to the flood that’s starting to build up around the campus. Sadly, though we are still UST students, we are under the Lung Center of the Philippine’s regulations.
Since at 6am, there were still no suspension except for preschool and highschool at QC, I decided to brave the streets even though the flood was already shin-deep. I had to take a risk because I cannot afford any more make ups and we also had a long quiz due this day. Luckily, I was able to flag a van that would take me to my destination. I arrived at the Lung Center at around 7am, an hour early for our call time. All in all, only 10 out of 17 interns were able to go to work. We were hoping that they would suspend clinic hours but to our misery, it wasn’t. It was a bit unfair since the other clinics and hospitals beside ours was suspending their work days. I guess this is just part of our tasks and is inescapable. We still had patients and had to treat even though most of us were sleepy due to the weather.
As the day ended some of our staff invited us for dinner at Trinoma. Most of us went and we ate at Taco Bell. We were supposed to watch Insidious 2 but decided not to since it was already late and some of us have to travel for quite a while to get home. Instead we roamed around the mall and went to Fully Booked. On our way, we passed by The Perfect White Shirt store and of course, my keen eyes was caught by a shirt with the Sherlock logo. I immediately stopped by and asked if they had my size. They did! And while I was waiting for them to get one, I also saw this Dauntless shirt, and by golly, I impulsively bought it too! So much for self-restraint. Haha.
At Fully Booked, I spotted Patrick Ness’ A Monster Calls and Holly Black’s Black Heart, the finale for the Curse Worker series. I was about to pay for them when one of my co-interns called me, He told me to check some books that he spotted. I was a bit irritated when he did that since I was already at the counter. Good thing that I checked the books he was holding. Turns out, it was the 50th anniversary Doctor Who book series, 11 books, 1 for each of the Doctors. I immediately put down Holly Black’s book (sorry!) and pick out the first two in the DW series. I was so dam happy that I hugged my co-intern and jumped for joy. I was a crazy fangirl.
I guess this is the best reward I could have. Indeed, bad things may turn out well in the end, unexpectedly. I am so thrilled right now. But still, I dunno which to read first. I want to read Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl so badly but I am also so excited with my new DW books. Daaaaamn.
P.S. So very sorry for this long post. I just cannot contain my happiness.
