Happy 49th Anniversary, Doctor Who!

I saw this circulating in Facebook this morning, but I wasn’t able to find the original post. So I apologize for not being able to properly give credit to the person who actually made it. Just to let you know what the post was all about, I took the liberty to post the picture:

As a great Doctor Who fan, I was very much willing to oblige. Before I went to school this morning, I drew the Doctor Who initials on my wrist using a blue highlighter and liquid eyeliner. I tried my very best to copy the “DW” logo and here was the result:

At school, only one guy noticed this and he was also the only other person in my class who watches Doctor Who. My friends even teased me for being the big “nerd girl” I am when I explain what this drawing meant. Some others gave weird glances at my wrist. Ha, like I care. Nonetheless, I was happy with what I did. Right now, it is still on my wrist and the more I see it there, the more I want to have a permanent tattoo like this. Oh, if only I can get one, I would.

So again, Happy 49th Anniversary to Doctor Who! I am expecting a lot more of those great episodes!

November Book Haul Part 2 (Warehouse Sale Mania)

So there was the National Bookstore Warehouse Sale happening at their main branch at Crossings from November 16 to 18. Their merchandise and books were marked up to 80% off, including bestsellers, YA fiction, nonfiction, popular ones, etc.

Of course, as a self-professed book addict, I couldn’t just let something like that pass. That’s why I went with my friend, Jervis, this morning. We arrived there at around 10:30am, half an hour past the opening. I have to say that being shocked was an understatement. The crowd was so huge and we can barely maneuver through the stands and shelves of books. Still, we hunt for good books for about an hour and decided to fall in line for payment. This was the most tiring part of the sale. Due to the large number of customers, we waited for almost 2 hours in line to get to the cashier. Yes. TWO. FREAKING. HOURS. OF. STANDING. But for the sake of my books, I patiently waited, regardless of the ache I felt on my legs and feet.

I have to say that it was so worth it. I got 13 books and 2 writing journals for a total price of Php1195 (roughly $27). And I am telling you, most of the books I bought were hardbound! I was so delighted. Here are the books I got from today’s haul:

  • The Chronicles of Narnia (Complete and Unabridged Edition) by C.S. Lewis —from Php820($18) to Php150($4)
  • How To Buy A Love of Reading by Tanya Egan Gibson —from Php1089(S24) to Php100($2)
  • The Necromancer by Michael Scott —from Php625($14) to Php100($2)
  • Lucky by Alice Sebold —from Php499($11) to Php75($1.7)
  • The Discomfort Zone by Jonathan Franzen —from Php359($8) to Php75($1.7)
  • Cricket Man by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor —from Php575($13) to Php75($1.7)
  • After by Amy Efaw —from Php453($10) to Php75($1.7)
  • Kit’s Wilderness by David Almond —from Php609($16) to Php75($1.7)
  • Red Spikes by Margo Lanagan —from Php615($16) to Php75($1.7)
  • Tweak by Nic Sheff —from Php615($16) to Php75($1.7)
  • The Great Call of China by Cynthea Liu —from Php339($7) to Php50($1)
  • Snakehead by Ann Halam —from Php305($7) to Php30($0.67)
  • Worldweavers by Alma Alexander —from Php 315($7) to Php50($1)

As for the two journals:

  • Plain Green Blank Journal —from Php260($6) to Php90($2)
  • Black with Silver Gothic Borders Ruled Journal —from Php289($6.50) to Php100($2)

All in all, the sale made me happy and I think all the effort I gave was so worth it.

Give it All Back
Noah and the Whale

Give It All Back - Noah & The Whale

And we’d sing and play simple 3-chord rock and roll

And miles away the other kids would just grow old

But we’re making our own way out

Yeah, we’re making our own way out..

Movie time.

I got my first paycheck yesterday(FINALLY!) and I decided to treat myself today. I wasn’t able to celebrate the mother’s day with my mom since it wasn’t her day off and she has work to do. And so instead, my cousin and I went to the mall to watch two movies: The Avengers and Dark Shadows.

Please please please, do not laugh because I only watched this movie today. I know that I shouldn’t have waited too long to watch it. But hey, better late than never right? Anyway, I really enjoyed it. I am a big fan of superhero movies and this one is a really good one. Since Captain America, I have been waiting for this movie to come out. Some people found The Avengers boring and I must say, I don’t understand why. It’s action-packed, the CGI and effects were brilliant, plus it wasn’t lacking on the humor department either. My only guess is that those who did not enjoy it are people who aren’t actually fans of superhero movie or big comic readers. I guess they were just people who watched the movie to be “in” and part of the fad. To me, the movie was great and the actors did very well. I particularly am drawn to Stark’s sarcastic and witty humor, Loki’s pain, and Hawkeye and Black Widow’s tandem. I enjoyed the movie very much.

Johnny Depp + Helena Bonham Carter + Eva Green + Tim Burton.

Uhm duh. What could be a reason not to watch this movie? This combination is perfect enough to drag me inside the movie house. Okay, so to the movie. Actually, I wasn’t much confident as to how the movie will go since it’s a vampire film. I was afraid that it would be like Twilight and all those trashy vampire/werewolf movies. Well, I am glad I still watched this one. It wasn’t a one-of-a-kind movie since Barnabus Collins, like any other vampire, is a blood-thirsty, manipulative and vengeful creature. But what made me like it is how time plays a different factor. In a lot of vampire books and series, the main character is usually immortal and lives through years and years. In this one, Barnabus was buried for two centuries and when he was finally awoken, he experience somewhat like a culture shock for his life and world was very different with the one he was awaken to. And also, the movie was hilarious plus Eve Green’s hot rack caught everyone’s attention. Good movie, usual Burton gothic picturesque, but not actually the best of the Burton-Depp tandem.

This song is very catchy that I was so surprised that it was released so long ago, back in 1957. My mom actually know this song and she asked me why I have this when she heard it playing on my laptop last week. Well, I actually heard it first from the indie film, We Need To Talk About Kevin, which I watched last year and since then, I grew very much attached to the song. It’s one of my happy, feel good songs and it is just so fun to listen to.

Sorry I haven’t been posting much these past few days. I’m just a little busy due to my summer job.

I started last Friday and today is the second day of my very first summer job. I would be a tutor and teacher aid at St. Jude Catholic School at Mendiola. I would be helping my aunt to review grades 1 and 2 students for their exams during their summer class. I haven’t done much yet, just looking over each students and assisting with the activities and instructions. I would officially start teaching these kids on Wednesday and I am very much excited.

I always thought that tutoring kids would be scary and intimidating but it is actually fun. These little kids’ energies are so infectious that I cannot feel the weariness until I got home. They are all so cute and adorable. I can’t help but smile all day. It’s so hard to be mad at them even when they get too rowdy. They are just so brimming with life and they very much enjoy school. It’s not like in high school in which students hate every second they spend in the classroom with their teachers. In primary school, these children are very attentive and active. You can see the eagerness in them, they are so excited with their new lessons and games. Every information seem so vital that all they want to do is absorb them and ask for more.

I just wish this characteristic would stay on with us forever. It’s just sad that as we grow, we believe that we have learned enough and we stop trying to seek more knowledge that our brains rot with vacancy and disuse.

These photos are super late uploads. This was last December during the Paskuhan event.

I decided to put it here because I kinda miss hanging out with my friends. It’s always like this during vacation. We live far apart and it’s hard to plan for something when everybody else have their own family outings. Our schedules just don’t match. Plus I’m too broke to actually go to any party or out-of-town trip. I guess I just miss goofing around with them, talking about anything and everything under the sun. All the craziness and laughter we all have when we’re all together. At least I’ll be seeing some of them on Monday. I’m excited, somehow.

Oh well, this is just the nostalgic me is getting out and reminiscing. Haha. Forgive me.

While I was busy covering my books.

  • Uncle: Hey, what would you do if I suddenly burn your books?
  • Me: *staring daggers while raising the cutter slowly* What did you just say?
  • Uncle: Me? Nothing, nothing! Wanna have some snacks? No? Okay, I'm out!
  • ...............
  • HAHAHAHA. You don't want to mess with my books. Relative or good friend, I don't care. I will hunt you down even after death. Seriously though, I won't forgive anyone, even with the best excuse they can give. Harm my books, and you're good as dead.

Now Reading: Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen

Just started with this book. I’m done with more than the first dozen pages, and I must say, this is a really cute book. I mean, it’s fresh and it is full of thoughts from two innocent, but very insightful minds. And the more I read, the more I see that the movie very much stuck true to the book’s storyline. Will update soon, after I’m done with it. Happy reading, fellow bookworms!

Look at what I’ve been studying about.

lalalalalalala… a tinee tiny PENIS!! lol

Yeah, we have an Anatomy quiz tomorrow about the perineum (part of the body that contains the reproductive organs). Trust me, it was so weird dissecting a dead man’s penis during our Anatomy Lab time. No one wants to do it. Our male classmates said that it was sacrilege and the females, wouldn’t even touch it. But it has to be done, so in the end, one of our male groupmates did the the dissection. And oh yes, now I am staring at a bunch of pictures of penises and vaginas. Both drawings or actual ones. And I have to memorize the parts. And even learn the mechanisms of erection. How weird. Haha. Well, this is a PT’s life. Got to get past the awkward reproductive organs. As for me, I didn’t have that awkward phase. It’s actually fine with me. I mean, I’ve watched enough porn before so I’m kinda used to how the “thing” looks. During in our lab, I just touch it and point out the different parts, like it’s the most normal thing to do. Lalalala.

And so I’m back from book shopping.

And these are the books I have found. Sorry for the crappy photo quality. I used my webcam since my camera isn’t here in my dorm. Words cannot express how happy I am to find these amazing books. Some of them, I’ve been desperately looking for over a year already. And yes, I guess I am just lucky. All of these books are on my to-buy list and now, I finally have them. It just sucks that I won’t be reading any of these soon since I have my exams coming. But oh well, my heart is just so glad now that I am in possession of these great books.

Here are the titles and the price if you are interested in buying them too:

The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie (Php 399)

Going Bovine by Libba Bray (Php 462)

Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle (Php 294)

Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan (Php 378)

Prozac Nation by Elizabeth Wurtzel (Php 609)

My Name Is Memory by Ann Brashares (Php 315)

And a grand total of:  Php 2457

I know it’s a lot but this would be my last book shopping this month. I would probably buy next month or maybe by March. And oh, I bought them all from Fully Booked. :)

Finally have a planner.

Yep, I bought the Design Your Life planner from Powerbooks. I wanted the Starbucks one but then when I saw the actual sample, I was hesitant because the space was too small for my liking. And then I found this and I immediately fell in love. The doodle per month are so cute and it wasn’t lined, so it’s perfect. There were also pages like the “Have You Smiled Today?” and a lot of quotes sprinkled at every page.

And because I was bored, I decided to spice it up a bit and make it more personalized. I used a 3d paint to scrawl on my name in front and I added some cute stuff in front and at the back. I also put some of my adorable post-its at the back for I often use those for reminders and stuff. And that’s it. I just hope I can maintain these add-ons and that they wouldn’t be ruined after some time. I enjoyed what I did to my planner and I do miss being artsy crafty shizz.

First time playing card games.

Today, I learned how to play Poker, Pusoy Dos, Blackjack, Lucky 9 and Crazy 8. Yes, I admit, I must be the lamest of all the lame people since I don’t know how to play these very popular card games. What can I do, that’s just one of my quirks? First of all, no one in our family play cards so it’s impossible for them to teach me how. And then, even if someone was able to teach me, I wouldn’t have anyone to play with. My sister don’t like these games and other than her, who would want to play with me at our house?

Oh well, at least now, because of my awesome friends, I got the chance to know how to play. Of course, I got a dozen laughs and insults from them due to me not knowing things like that. I felt so stupid when they were explaining the combinations and whatnots of the game. I even asked them if I could have a list so I won’t get confused. Haha. But the funny thing is, I actually won in Poker and Blackjack the first time I tried playing. My friends even said that I cheated since no one gets to be that lucky. What can I say, I guess I’m a fast learner.

It was really fun. We played for almost 3 hours and we even had bets and pot money. But of course, just coins and nothing too high. We don’t have enough money to gamble on. In the end, when we got bored, we used the remaining pot money to buy food to feast on. It was really a fun experience for me. I hope that I won’t forget playing them all.

Not bad at all.

So yes, we really had our first class back to school today. Of course, everyone in our batch was dreading to face this week since our grades for the first shifting exams would be given to us. But for me, it’s not actually a bad day at all. Here are a few reasons why I feel good today.

  • We had lecture for our first class but it wasn’t really boring and all that.
  • We got dismissed earlier because our prof for the second class only distributed our exams.
  • I got a very high score in the Kinesiology exam (72/80). Haha.
  • We had our exchange gifts today and I got a Murakami book, Kafka on The Shore. (So so happy!!)
  • Another friend of mine gave me this cute little notebook. (I love notebooks! Plus, it has no lines.)
  • I also received Hershey’s Cookies and Cream chocolate, a bracelet and a new nail polish. (Awesome!!)
  • And since we got dismissed early, I slept for more than 3 hours, from 2:30-6pm. (My body clock is still not fixed okay? Haha)

And that’s about it for today. I hope that I will have as much fun and good day tomorrow, as well. Wish me luck!
