Come, and do the happy dance with me!

As I’ve said before, I was only able to buy the second volume since I wasn’t able to find the first one. But today, I finally got the first volume of Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Novels and Stories!! Now, I can start reading it because I have both volumes and I don’t have to worry anymore. I am just so awfully happy right now.

I was out with my new roommate and we were in the mall to have the keys duplicated. And then, as always, I went for a little visit at the bookstore. I was actually supposed to buy some new notebooks since classes would start this Monday. But of course, like in any other bookstore, I wouldn’t pass the chance to check on the book section. And there it was! A whole new stack of the two volumes of Sherlock Holmes. Oh and I definitely picked it up and bought a copy. Good thing I brought extra money.

So now, I think I would have to stop reading my other books and try to finish these before school starts. And it’s a good time to read too. The weather is perfect, with all this rain. I could make a steaming mug of coffee and be cozy in bed while reading these.

NEW BOOK: The Girls by Lori Lansens
I have been seeing this book for a few times now in every bookstore I happen to go into. It’s like it somehow catches my eyes and when I decided to pick it up, I would not be so much interested with it and I’ll put it down. I would just leave the book and won’t buy it. And then the cycle goes on for about four times.
But today, I was browsing for books at Powerbooks and again, this book came up. This time, the book wasn’t encased in plastic so I was able to skim through the first dozen pages. And I must say that the way the beginning was written caught my attention. It turns out that the story is about the conjoined twins, Ruby and Rose, connected in the head. The book was written in two different voices, one for each of the twins.
From the few pages I have read, I learned that these characters were sort of a freakshow in their town since they are already twenty-nine years old and still conjoined in the head. One is has a weaker body than the other which disabled her to walk. This results in her resting her legs on her sister’s hip like a doll. Also, I learned that these two girls are very much different despite being conjoined twins. One is bookish, while the other is fond of trash TV and baseball.
And so yes, I got interested and finally bought the book. I’ hoping to read and finish it before classes resume this Monday. I also wish that it’s a good decision to buy the book without reading reviews about it first.
Here’s a little excerpt from the book:
“I have never looked into my sisters eyes. I have never bathed alone. I have never stood in the grass at night and raised my arms to the beguiling moon. I’ve never used an airplane bathroom. Or worn a hat. Or been kissed like that. I’ve never driven a car. Or slept through the night. Never a private talk. Or a solo walk. I’ve never climbed a tree. Or faded into a crowd. So many things I’ve never done, but oh, how I’ve been loved. And, if such things were to be, I’d live a thousand lives as me, to be loved so exponentially.”

Hello, my dear followers. Good evening!
Look what I got from the bookstore today! It’s Sherlock Holmes by none other than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
I wasn’t actually planning to buy a book right now since I’m still saving up for a good haul. But then I was too early for my summer job and I decided to pass by a bookstore first just to browse for any good book. And then I found this one. Sadly, it’s the second volume and no matter how much I searched, I cannot find the first. Nevertheless, I still bought it since I don’t really need to read Sherlock Holmes in a certain order.
I am curious about the novels since I have watched and fangirled over BBC Sherlock, so I want to know how different the book and show are. I know for a fact that the show was modernized and completely more futuristic with all the tech-y stuff. I guess I wanted to read how the original Sherlock worked his brilliance to solve the mysteries of Victorian England. I know that Sherlock Holmes is considered to be one of the best classics ever written.
I am not really a big fan of detective books but then the mystery, cleverness and plot twists I have watched on the show is enough to convince me that the book might also be a good read. Hopefully, I can find the other volumes so that I can enjoy the whole thing completely.

Unplanned purchase.

I finally got home! I went to UST to get my clearance and did something in relation with my scholarship. After that, I was supposed to go straight home. But since I’m already out, I decided to stop by the mall and thought there’s no harm in that. When I arrived, I just visited a bookstore.

I was browsing for new books to buy the next time I have enough money. At the last shelf, the one at the very back, I found Laurie Halse Anderson’s Speak hidden behind a The Fault in Our Stars hard cover. I immediately picked it ip when I saw the red tag in front. The book is marked down by 40%, which means that instead of getting it at 500php, it is priced at 300php. I didn’t find any damage, whatsoever. So, without second thoughts, I immediately went straight to the counter and paid for it.

I was hoping to buy this book for a long time. But then I was not able to because it’s always out of stock. But I guess my book luck strikes again and voila! I watched the movie adaptation of this book and became very interested when  I learned that it was originally a novel. And so now, I am so happy because I can finally read it.

"It was funny how the old practices always came around again. It was the rhythm of human enterprise to invent and worship some new approach, to fully reject it a generation later, to realize the need for it again a generation or two after that and then hastily reinvent it as new, usually without its original elegance. Scientists hated to look backward for anything."

All I’ve done

Just to get away from the shore

Just to turn back now

I’m turning back now..

If only I am as lucky in my love life as I am in book hunting..

Went out to go to the mall because I have to buy some stuff I need at my dorm. Of course I chose the mall with my favorite bookstore, so I went to SM Mall of Asia. It didn’t even took me more than 15 minutes to buy the things I need. And then, I immediately head off to Fullybooked to look for any good book I can find.

Well, my luck paid off and I found three books that are in my to-buy list. I got another David Levithan book, The Lover’s Dictionary. It was the last stock available in that branch and one other guy was holding it. I was already getting very much envious because I really wanted this book. But then, as he was going around, he found another book and put The Lover’s Dictionary down. The moment he let go, I immediately picked it up and the guy saw me. He looked at me and gave this funny look. I just smile and said, “Thank you for putting this down!” And then he laughed. Who cares? At least I got the book. I also found Michael Thomas Ford’s Suicide Notes and Walton’s Cracked at the shelves. I grabbed them both and decided I have enough so I bought them all.

If only I was this lucky in finding that special person, then maybe I’d be happier. Haha. Oh well, at least I am very satisfied with my hoard today. Hope I can finally read these books. I want to have my vacation already so that I can have time!

Fantastic finds.

And our four-day long break had officially began. I was supposed to go straight home from my dorm but then my uncle was driving by the gate of our subdivision and saw me. I asked where he was going and he said that he’s off to the mall to get something for my baby cousin. He asked if I wanted to come and of course, I did. I would never miss a chance to go to a mall when there is a good bookstore I can visit, with a prospect of hunting a new book.

So here are the books I found which, I must say, are very good finds. I found the only John Green book that I didn’t have yet. I actually squealed and did a little jump when I found it on the top shelf. So now, I have all of his books and I am so happy. Plus I also found this one book about the Hunger Games movie. It was published by Scholastica, the same publisher of the book series. Inside are pictures and details about each tribute, the set and some sneak peak of the movie itself. I immediately grabbed it and know that I will regret not buying it. And lastly, I got The Best of Chico and Delamar’s The Morning Rush Top 10. It is a local book that lists some of the funniest top 10s that was featured on their radio show. I seriously laughed out loud with every list I read.

All in all, I think my four-day long break would be awesome. It would be a nice time to catch up on my reading and finally knock off a book or two from my to-read list. I wish that I can finish at least three books, aside from my Hunger Games reread. I really don’t want to go out and party during this little vacation. I want to spend my precious time with my ever trusted books.

What better way to relieve stress than have a book shopping spree?

HELL WEEK IS OFFICIALLY OVER. Yes, our preliminary exams came to an end today. This week had been so stressful that I didn’t have any time to go online and post some new stuff.

Anyways, since I feel so down about some of my tests, my friends and I decided to go out tonight. We chose to go to The Fort and go on a food trip and whatever else we can do there. So we ate at Trellis and window shopped a bit. We also had dessert at Conti’s and bought Gelatissmo ice creams. It was indeed a full-on binge. And of course, since the main branch of Fullybooked is there, how can I not step into the store? It was a full four-story heaven for a big book geek like me.

Honestly, I wish that I could live there, surrounded by tons of books. So yeah, I took my time and browsed every shelf until I found these awesome books. I have been looking for them ever since, and I found almost all of my to-buy there. No words can describe the fulfillment I felt when I grabbed them out of the shelves and place them on the counter. It is the best way to forget the stress the exams have given me. I felt so much better. Now, I have the complete Ned Vizzini books. And I am so ready to have my summer vacation. My to-read books are already preapared!

If you are curious with my purchases, here they are with the prices:

Cut by Patricia McCormick (Php 294)

Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen (Php 350)

Teen Angst? by Ned Vizzini (Php 378)

It’s Kind Of A Funny Story by Ned Vizzini (Php 360)

The Designated Ugly Fat Friend by Kody Keplinger (Php 360)

And with a grand total of Php 1724.

I know it’s a bit much but I just can’t help myself. Plus, this is my last book haul for this month. I won’t be buying any book soon since I have to save up for The Cab, Dashboard Confessional and The Used concert on March.

Mini book haul.

Went to MOA yesterday and of course, visited the bookstore I love the most: Fullybooked. And look at these babies that I found! Oh heaven!

At first, I only wanted to buy Douglas Adams’ Hitchhicker’s Guide To Galaxy, but then I spotted this awesome book, Zombies vs Unicorns. I think it’s a great book since a lot of my favorite authors are included in this anthology of short stories about zombies and unicorns. In this book, they debate about which creature is better. I read a bit and I must say that it’s seriously hilarious. And then for the last book, my bookworm senses are telling and urging me to buy it. I read the summary of Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes and I think I might be able to relate with the characters. If it isn’t too obvious in the title yet, the story is about two best friends which share two different uglies in life. They struggle to face their everyday problems with bullying and teasing. But when it became too much for one of them, the story goes as the other fight to save his lost friend.

Ingrid Michaelson’s new album is already out!

Yes. FINALLY! Human Again was released last January 24, 2012. I just knew about it a whille ago. I am in love with her so I already have my copy of the album. Of course, I only downloaded it. Fuck SOPA and all that. Hahaha. Here are the track list and snippets of the lyrics for this new album:

1. FIRE

“I’m walking in a fire with you

Walking in, walking in a fire

When I walk into you..”

2. THIS IS WAR

“It’s a wonder at all that I’m still standing

It’s a wonder at all that I survived the war

Between your heart and mine..”

3. DO IT NOW

“No one’s gonna wait for you

So do it now, do it right now

Don’t waste a minute on the darkness

And the pity in your mind..”

4. I’M THROUGH

“But I would rather feel the sting

Than never to have felt a thing

I’ll always know you were the one..”

5. BLOOD BROTHERS

“If you loved me, would you hold on to my hand?

If you loved me, would you finally understand?

That we’re all blood, we’re all blood, blood brothers..”

6. BLACK AND BLUE

“Everybody knows that I’m a mess

Everybody knows you stole the heart from out my chest

Everything you ever said was a lie..”

7. RIBBONS

“I found somebody, said he’d make me fly

Wrapped me up in ribbons

Then he left me to die..”

8. HOW WE LOVE

“She had eyes like the rising tide

He felt a sharpness deep inside

The kind of ache that can’t be satisfied..”

9. PALM OF YOUR HAND

“You make me want to be a human again

Can I be your only human again?

You bring me back into pieces..”

10. GHOST

“I’m an invisible disaster

I keep trying to walk

But my feet don’t find the solid ground..”

11. IN THE SEA

“Like a cocoon in sheets, you wrap you up so tight

Remember how we used to tangle up and breathe?

Now you’re so far away, you roll me in the sea..”

12. KEEP WARM

“Used to live alone

In a tomb I made my own

But now i’ve gone and given up my cool..”

13. END OF THE WORLD

“When the moon breaks up

And the tide goes out of control

Will you find me in the water

And swim me to the stars?..”
