Matt Smith announces he is to leave Doctor Who

The BBC is today announcing that Matt Smith is to leave Doctor Who after four incredible years on the hit BBC One show. Matt first stepped into the TARDIS in 2010 and will leave the role at the end of this year after starring in the unmissable 50th Anniversary in November and regenerating in the Christmas special. During his time as the Doctor,

Matt has reached over 30 million unique UK viewers and his incarnation has seen the show go truly global. He was also the first actor to be nominated for a BAFTA in the role. Matt quickly won over fans to be voted Best Actor by Readers of Doctor Who Magazine for the 2010 season. He also received a nod for his first series at the National Television Awards, before winning the Most Popular Male Drama Performance award in 2012.

Matt has played one of the biggest roles in TV with over 77 million fans in the UK, USA and Australia alone!

Matt Smith says:”Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show. I’m incredibly grateful to all the cast and crew who work tirelessly every day, to realise all the elements of the show and deliver Doctor Who to the audience. Many of them have become good friends and I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last four years.

Having Steven Moffat as show runner write such varied, funny, mind bending and brilliant scripts has been one of the greatest and most rewarding challenges of my career. It’s been a privilege and a treat to work with Steven, he’s a good friend and will continue to shape a brilliant world for the Doctor.

The fans of Doctor Who around the world are unlike any other; they dress up, shout louder, know more about the history of the show (and speculate more about the future of the show) in a way that I’ve never seen before, your dedication is truly remarkable. Thank you so very much for supporting my incarnation of the Time Lord, number Eleven, who I might add is not done yet, I’m back for the 50th anniversary and the Christmas special!

It’s been an honour to play this part, to follow the legacy of brilliant actors, and helm the TARDIS for a spell with ‘the ginger, the nose and the impossible one’. But when ya gotta go, ya gotta go and Trenzalore calls. Thank you guys. Matt.”

Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, says : “Every day, on every episode, in every set of rushes, Matt Smith surprised me: the way he’d turn a line, or spin on his heels, or make something funny, or out of nowhere make me cry, I just never knew what was coming next. The Doctor can be clown and hero, often at the same time, and Matt rose to both challenges magnificently. And even better than that, given the pressures of this extraordinary show, he is one of the nicest and hardest-working people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Whatever we threw at him - sometimes literally - his behaviour was always worthy of the Doctor.

But great actors always know when it’s time for the curtain call, so this Christmas prepare for your hearts to break, as we say goodbye to number Eleven. Thank you Matt - bow ties were never cooler.

Of course, this isn’t the end of the story, because now the search begins. Somewhere out there right now - all unknowing, just going about their business - is someone who’s about to become the Doctor. A life is going to change, and Doctor Who will be born all over again! After 50 years, that’s still so exciting!”

Having starred alongside three different companions, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan), Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) and most recently Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman), Matt’s Doctor has fought Daleks and Cybermen, as well as Weeping Angels in New York. Regularly heard shouting ‘run’ and ‘Geronimo’, through Matt’s Doctor fans have been introduced to a new culinary combination - fish fingers and custard!

Matt’s spectacular exit is yet to be revealed and will be kept tightly under wraps. He will return to BBC One screens in the unmissable 50th anniversary episode on Saturday 23rd November 2013 - TUNE IN!

We’ll have exclusive quotes from Jenna on this site tomorrow and a special video from Matt - coming soon!

Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief Movie Adaptation

French-Canadian newcomer Sophie Nelisse is making her English-language debut in the adaptation of the best-selling book by Markus Zusak.

Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson are set to topline Fox 2000’s adaptation of Markus Zusak’s best-selling novel The Book Thief.

The girl arrives with a stolen book and begins collecting other tomes, learning to read while her stepparents harbor a Jewish refugee (Schnetzer) under the stairs.

Rush’s character first takes on the young girl for money but soon comes to love her. Watson’s character is described as being very tough on Liesel, but her kindness occasionally shows through.

The film is looking at a production start this month in Berlin. Karen Rosenfelt and Ken Blancatoare producing.

Rush received a 2011 Oscar nomination for his work in The King’s Speech, and his last major studio film appearance was in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. He most recently starred in the European drama The Best Offer, directed by Giuseppe Tornatore (Cinema Paradiso).

God. I have mixed emotions on this one. I am excited because I really wanted to see how Death would be portrayed but at the same time, like in all other book-to-movie adaptations, I fear that they won’t be able to capture the entirety of the story.

Oh well, I think the movie plans are final and that it would push through. I just hope that they won’t butcher the book. I would seriously get mad if they ruin the entire magnificence of the story. This book is my most favorite next to the Harry Potter series.

I am supposed to be studying for Neurology and Pathology for our prelims tomorrow, but then I saw this and holy shit, I immediately closed my books. HAHAHAHA.
SLYTHERIN IS AWESOME!! I AM SO EXCITED!!

OMG. If ever I’d have children in the future, this would be their toys. I wouldn’t let them anywhere near barbies and toy guns. I’d give them the Doctor and his companion. I would even find them a TARDIS to go with this action figures. Their weapons would be sonic screwdrivers. God, I wish I have this as toys when I was a child. I could have spared those barbies and their heads might still connected with their bodies if I had received these ones instead.

What the hell? I love the Original Cast.

So now I read the news that the new season for American Horror Story would mean a new set of cast and a new haunted house/building. I don’t like it. I was patiently waiting for the new season hoping to see more of Tate/Violet and the demon baby. Now, they’re ruining it. And get this, it would be like this for every new season. Technically, a whole new plot and story. I hate that. I really really am pissed Mr. Ryan Murphy. :|

The full article is found here.

If it’s not Charice, it’s the Revillas who are all over the news today.

Damn, can’t they move on to other things? I mean, just report about them when the issue is finally resolved and the suspects are caught. We don’t need every single detail. Aren’t there any more important issues to focus on, that people should be informed about? Seriously, I am fed up with the same things going on and on in every news programs I watch.

I can’t stand watching Pinoy TV shows.

I dunno. I really hate them. I mean, all of them are so overrated. Almost all the storylines are cliché. I get bored watching those dramas and whatnots. Plus the variety shows. Happy Yipee Yehey, Eat Bulaga, Wil Time Big Time. UGH. Why the hell are those contestants crying all the time?? I am also disturbed by how those people suck up to those hosts just so they can get higher amount of cash. Where are your dignity people? Those teen shows. I seriously loathe them. Those 14-16ish teens full of make-up, worrying about boys and dating and all that, is that supposed to be a role model for kids or something? Because if they are, I am not surprised why a lot of teenagers nowadays forget about their studies and are so preoccupied with getting the opposite sex attracted to them. Worse, they have this mindset that they are supposed to look like adults even when they are still young. Ever wonder why teenage pregnancy is a big issue nowadays? And the news. Oh boy. They keep on focusing on issues that are not really important. Celebrities losing weight, divorce of this or that, issues on social networking sites. HELLO! We need real information here. We don’t need any of that crap.

Okay, sorry for ranting out. I am not a hater here. I don’t hate my own country. It’s just that I think that our media is so much full of crap. Those Filipino indie films that are not so mainstream and very much unheard of are much better than what I see on TV. Those movies teach us a lot more about the real going-ons in our country. They may be more liberated or boring, but the content are so much more worthy of my time. I just don’t understand why they can’t make shows like those. A lot of indie film directors are much more talented in terms of making simple movies that are far better in content.

Another stupid discrimination of Physical Therapists.

From TV Patrol (Sept. 25, 2011), at 02:55 of clip:

“Wena dreams of being a physical therapist. But because of financial insufficiency, she opted to train in TESDA in a course closest to PT which is massage therapy.”

And here’s what I found to be the best response for this issue:

From Eman Yu (from BAYAN MO IPATROL KO FB ACCOUNT)

I am not a physical therapist but i couldn’t agree more with what Jing said. Top 3 hardest licensure examination in the Philippines are

1) Bar Exam
2) Physician’s Exam / Medicine
3) Physical Therapist licensure Exam

if physical therapists are to be compared with any of the professions in the world, that is being a doctor. They studied 5 years, concentrating on anatomy, physiology, and medical surgical conditions).

Massage therapy is just one of the interventions they use with their patients and they didn’t even spend 2 hours studying/discussing that topic. They seldom use it with their patients.

Physical Therapists Plan, prepare and carry out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunction in patients.

Perform and document an initial exam, evaluating the data to identify problems and determine a diagnosis prior to intervention.

The phrase “PINAKAMALAPIT sa PT” (which means “CLOSEST TO PT”) is improper, foul and degrading to their profession.

If ABS CBN stands for responsible journalism, Jasmine Romero should be accountable enough to correct her mistake.

Seriously. Responsible journalism requires ample amount of research. Know your fact well before stating anything because you don’t know how you can degrade or misjudge people. I am a Physical Therapist student and being called “masahista” (massage therapist) is just unacceptable. We work hard and spend hours studying those subjects. One of our doctor professors even said that we could be considered as “little doctors” for the difficult subjects we are taking and then you compare us to masseurs?? That would really set us off and go ballistik. Please do your job well. Journalists should be credible of informative news not some bullcrap untrue statements like this.

Why are people debating whether Amy Winehouse’s death or the Norway killings are better to mourn over?

Last time I checked, death of any person is worth grieving no matter who they are or what they have done. I think it’s stupid that people are comparing these two incidents and debating on which one should be given more importance. The Norway killing was very tragic and a lot of young people lost their lives. A lot of families were in great shock and grief. On the other hand, Amy Winehouse’s death also had that same effect on the people who valued and loved her. It’s not right to choose which one is better. For God’s sake, it’s death we’re talking about here, not an event like Grammy’s or something. Let us just respect all of the lives that were lost these past few days. Let’s just hope for the betterment of their families and pray for peace for their souls.

Fine for late enrollees.

I was watching the news and I heard about this. They said that schools are appealing to the board about giving fine for students who are late in enrolling. My God, you lawmakers are actually that stupid? I have friends who are late enrollees and that’s because they are still finding a way to pay their tuition. You think putting a fine would actually help them? Don’t you realize that the reason why they are late in enrolling is because they don’t have enough money to pay for it? I thought you guys are supposed to be wise that’s why you are in that position. Well, I guess not if you insist on doing this to those people who just want to study but have a hard time affording it. Guess that this is another reason why our country is so lame.

For Libya and New Zealand.

What happened in New Zealand and Libya is now all over the news and the internet. This news just bothers me so much and I feel very bad. Here I am getting mad and wasting my time worrying of such useless matter when people in New Zealand and Libya are much more suffering. I feel so guilty.

New Zealand

Another earthquake has struck Christchurch just barely five months after the last. This is so devastating and a lot were killed and people who just moved on from the past calamity were then again put into danger. I mean, we cannot blame anyone here. It’s nature’s game. But as human beings, we need to do everything we can to help other people. Prayers are needed by these people. It wouldn’t hurt for us to take a few moment of time and give them wishes for the good of their life.

Libya

This issue is a lot more bothersome than the one about New Zealand. It’s too much for me to bear and I really got so, I dunno, mad? But yeah, Gaddafi used his power to bring down people who are opposing him. I mean, who in their right minds would kill their own people just to stay in their position? It’s freaking genocide!! Doesn’t it bother him that he is wasting precious lives just for his sake? Talk about greed. If his people really believes that his ruling is not good for their country, why not let them speak their minds? I can’t believe that people protesting against Gaddafi were shot even while they were praying? Where is his heart? Those are people not preys. How could he do those things and not be bothered by his conscience? Are people so blinded by power and glory enough to do these inhumane things? If so, I would rather die than to live in a world like this. This just has to stop. Will someone, anyone, be brave enough and put an end to these merciless killings?

In a world where everything is not going right, faith, hope and love is the answer. Peace is not impossible to attain, especially when one heart is pure enough to see the light.

Every single life is valuable.

Why are there a lot of abandoned babies in the news. Worse, a lot of them are newborn and dead. I know that I don’t have the right to judge, but what the hell is wrong with their parents? I don’t want to hear anything about poverty. It’s not an excuse to leave your child alone in the trash or in any deserted street. Don’t you have any idea how much valuable life is? A lot of the abandoned babies’ parents say that they left them because they don’t have enough money to support the child. I know it’s a hard life but how can you let that child die alone? If you really can’t take care of the child, give them to any orphanage. It’s better than letting them suffer in the cold street. I can’t believe people are like this. I don’t get the point anyway. They had sex and they can’t live with the consequence of their actions? What the hell. It just pisses me of knowing how much life was wasted. Other people are doing their best just to survive and others are almost pleading to have more time in this world. Why can’t these people see how great the gift of life is?
