Day 09 – A book you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving

Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
This book was the kind of book I would just pass by without really looking, when I’m in a bookstore. I don’t know, but maybe it’s because political dynasties and medieval war genres don’t appeal much to me. I just don’t fancy fighting and too much bloodshed in exchange for a crown or in this case, the Iron Throne.
But then my roommate aka fellow bookworm, Abby, forced me to read the book. She told me that it is good and that it’s not boring like what I imagined. Still, I did not budge. And so she gave me a copy of the first episode of the TV series adaptation. She told me to watch and give it a chance. So I did, and I was surprised because I immediately wanted to know more about the story. So in the end, I bought the book and read. In the beginning, I had a hard time catching up with all the different characters, houses, and the kingdoms. They were so many and I got a bit confused. But then I put my full focus and enjoyed the book even more. It was really different. The political issues were so similar with the present times. It was a good mix of battles, controversies, human pleasures, supernatural creatures, wit, romance and the disgusting greed the people have.
Truly, I learned how not to judge a book by its genre. I am looking forward to reading the other books in the future.
