Who says I can’t eat cold food during this cold weather?
Hahaha. This Double Dutch ice cream doesn’t seem so bad a company in this chilly night. I am stuck here in my dorm for too long and I am so fed up with noodles and canned food. I really wanna go home. But alas, travelling deemed impossible when the rain continued to pour. And so I bought one of my comfort foods which is available at the convenience store of our dorm (thank goodness!).
So right now, I’ve been a bum, watching movies on my laptop, hoping that the power won’t go out. I’m gonna be reading later if that happens. Yep, I’m pretty much stocked with books here in my dorm, and I can finally read them freely! How so, with the lights gone? Well, back to my handy flashlight, damned be my eyes. Hahaha. Anyways, this is how I look, all cuddled up with my favorite blanket with a huge pint of ice cream in hand. Hope you guys are okay, too! Have a nice stormy evening! :)

It’s been a crazy week for the Filipino nation due to the grave weather. Up until now, the raining doesn’t stop and a lot of street and cities are drenched in knee-high to waist-high floods. Being someone who dorms at UST, I’ve had my fair share of the flooded experience. And this is how it all started:
MONDAY
Classes got suspended at around 12nn
We decided to stay at my friend’s condo and have a mini drinking party and crazy games
The rain got harder and yet, it didn’t occurred to us that it’s already flooded
At 9pm, some of our friends decided to leave while Ella and I stayed because we know how high floods in UST can get
AJ and Abby told us not to go home anymore, so we stayed overnight at their condo
We had a movie marathon and watched National Treasure, Sex is Zero II, and If Only
TUESDAY
We were supposed to head back our dorm but then they said that the flood in Lacson and UST is above knee-deep
We went to SM which is directly in front of the condo to buy groceries
We also had our lunch there and then we went back to the condo
Out of boredom, we baked fudge brownies
While waiting, we played Monopoly deal and card games
We also had another movie marathon. This time we watched National Treasures 2 and A Dangerous Method
We cooked and ate dinner
Then we decided to crash for the night after an hour or two of conversations
WEDNESDAY
At around 9am, it was all sunny and no traces of rain but the flood is still there
We had our breakfast (corned beef + eggs) and then some chips
Ella and I were ready to go home when the rain poured again
We waited for it to somehow lighten but it didn’t
So we braved the rain and flood for we though that it might get worse again
I rode a tricycle from SM to my dorm at Lacson and the flood was really bad
It was still knee-high in some street and ankle-high in our dorm’s street
I ended up paying a hundred pesos for the fare
And so now, I am finally in the comforts of my own dorm. I had nothing to do plus I cannot go out, so I started reading Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. I hope this rain would stop for I am really afraid of the consequences it can give us. The UST Hospital and UERM are already low on diesel for their generators. The morgue on the first floor of UST Hospital is already flooded and bodies are floating around. The patients and staff are running very low on supplies. If this goes on, I don’t know how much more we can take. And to think that this all happened without a storm in our country’s area of responsibility. Damn.

Look at me! All prim and proper, ready to go to school. But wait for it.. CLASSES ARE SUSPENDED!
Just when I was about to get out of my room, they announced that it’s cancelled. :| Which sucks, since I’m already in my uniform and ready to go.
I know the suspension is for the safety of the others who are living near Manila Bay, which I think by now is already flooded. But then, I just think that they should have announced it earlier so that students won’t have to go through the motions and hassle just to get to school. Some of my friends are already here in UST and some are on their way. What a waste of money and time.
So yes, I am pissed, although I don’t look like it. HAHA. And yes, I feel that our supposed to be month-long sembreak would be cut short to make-up for these school days. And I don’t think anyone like that.

I hate suspension of classes.

On contrary to the desires of most students, I really don’t like it when classes are cancelled due to bad weather or whatever else. I know that it seems a bit insesitive for those who commute, I get that. But this is not about the consequences of going to school in such increment weather. This post is all about what I think is the consequence of missing a day’s worth of class.

Yes, it’s nice to take a break but then after that, everything just piles up. The quizzes are doubled, make-up classes are held, the lectures are rushed, the deadlines for reports are moved and the whole schedule is affected. I may be weird but I just find it more difficult to adjust with these changes. To me, it seems that the workload increases when classes are suspended. Plus, I feel like my efforts in studying and preparing for the following day are put to waste.  Call me geeky or whatever, but I really prefer going to school as planned.

Damn, I hope there are classes tomorrow.

Birthday Schmirthday.

I’m not really excited about my upcoming birthday next Thursday, July 26th. I would be turning nineteen and I am not very much into it. First of all, the usual gloomy and stormy weather is again at large. That brings my mood spiraling down to the very rock-bottom. Second is that it falls on a weekday, so no hopes in going out or whatever. Plus that’s the day when we have a 6-hour straight class, which is boring to the very core. And lastly, I don’t think I’ll be receiving the very thing I want for my special day: a VIP ticket for the Big Bang concert on October. Why? Well, because just a while ago, it was announced that the tickets for VIP 1 and 2 were already sold out. It’s sucks so much. Anyways, a can still think of a few things that might cheer me up on Thursday and that is if I receive any one of these:

  • CASH (cold and hard, for buying that concert ticket)
  • VIP tickets (still hoping for this very badly)
  • Kindle Fire (I really like this one because I can bring and read loads of books everywhere without the hassle)
  • The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series by Michael Scott (I’ve been told by a lot of my book-lover friends that it’s good!)
  • Harry Potter Film Wizardy or Harry Potter Page to Screen: The Complete Film-making Journey (HELLO! Who wouldn’t want this?)
  • Or any book from my goodreads that aren’t in the books-i-own category.
  • External hard drive (I really need this one, too! My laptop’s about to explode with huge amounts of files)

I know that these are all too much but then these are what I so desperately want and need. The chance of me getting any of these is close to null, but I still have that little piece of hope left. So yeah, wish me luck!

Because it’s raining like hell at this time of night, my rainy day playlist is definitely on. Oh, the eargasmic music is just perfect with the harsh sound of rain against the windows. It’s just so relaxing and pleasant. How I wish classes would be canceled tomorrow. It would be nice to sleep in with this kind of weather.

Why does school starts in June here in the Philippines?

I mean, I get it that they reserve the summer season of April and May for vacation but I just think that the month of June isn’t very conducive for studying. For the benefit of those who aren’t from the Philippines, June is considered as the month of bad weather. It is in this month we start to experience a lot of rainstorms and flood.

So imagine how difficult it is for the students to get on with their classes when the weather is all cold and wet. How do you expect us to stay up and concentrate with our lessons when the climate forces us to cozy up and stay indoors? Of course we cannot just stay out of school every time that it rains but when it’s this heavy, do you think it’s appropriate to send students to school? When it’s pouring and chilly and windy outside, our body’s natural instinct would be to just stay as warm as possible. It is also inevitable that we would feel all sleepy and lazy. I know it’s not an excuse for not studying well but it is true.

So yeah, I just think that it’s better for classes to resume in other months instead of June. I think it would make students more productive and it would lessen the hassle. And uhm yeah, because I still don’t want to go back to school on Tuesday.

Come, and do the happy dance with me!

As I’ve said before, I was only able to buy the second volume since I wasn’t able to find the first one. But today, I finally got the first volume of Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Novels and Stories!! Now, I can start reading it because I have both volumes and I don’t have to worry anymore. I am just so awfully happy right now.

I was out with my new roommate and we were in the mall to have the keys duplicated. And then, as always, I went for a little visit at the bookstore. I was actually supposed to buy some new notebooks since classes would start this Monday. But of course, like in any other bookstore, I wouldn’t pass the chance to check on the book section. And there it was! A whole new stack of the two volumes of Sherlock Holmes. Oh and I definitely picked it up and bought a copy. Good thing I brought extra money.

So now, I think I would have to stop reading my other books and try to finish these before school starts. And it’s a good time to read too. The weather is perfect, with all this rain. I could make a steaming mug of coffee and be cozy in bed while reading these.

Woah. It’s raining again. That’s the second time this week now. Whatever happened to summer? Haha. Oh, like I care. I like this kind of weather better. Add a steaming mug of coffee and a good book, and it’s perfect.

It’s raining really hard outside with such huge droplets, which is weird because the clear sky is very bright at the same time.

Weird weather is weird. It looks so fake. Oh well.

Cuddle weather. Find someone to hug tightly.

So, I got a pillow and:

Friend: I said SOMEONE not SOMETHING!

Me:

Nippy weather is nippy.

It’s cold and it’s raining. Blah.

Damn. Why do we have to get up early and go to school? This is the perfect weather to lie in bed, under warm blankets and to just sleep. Sleep and sleep and sleep. Why can’t life be that simple? I can imagine myself having a cup of hot coffee, comfortable lying in bed with a book or two to read. But of course, that won’t happen right now, especially since it’s just a week before finals. Oh well, guess I have no choice but to endure two more weeks before I can enjoy my sembreak.

RANDOM FACT: If there’s one thing that scare the shit out of me, it would be lightning storms.

AND CRAP, there is one right now!!! I am freaking out!!! :| >.< O.O

In the cold, I find warmth in my soul.

“Every man has his secret sorrows which the world knows not. And oftentimes, we call a man cold when he is only sad.”

It’s is such a cold and rainy day. No classes for us and yet I’m too lazy to do anything productive. When they announced the suspension of classes at around 6:30am a while ago, my dorm mates and I had breakfast and not long after, went back to sleep. And yes, I just woke up.

This is the kind of day when I just want to curl up under my blankets, listen to mellow songs and contemplate about matters of life. I don’t know what it is with the rain or cold, but somehow, it soothes me. It doesn’t bother me as much. I prefer the cold than the blazing heat of the sun. I feel like its easier to relax during rainy days. It is also a perfect time to curl up with a book in hand and a steaming mug of coffee. I feel safe watching pellets of rain slide down my window. The sound of the drizzle as raindrops fall on the roof make me feel comfortable. I could live in a day like this forever.

But seasons change as days pass. I could only savor this one time and hope that one day, a time like this would come again.
